£50 million in Added Value for our customers

£50 million saved for our customers

We've just passed a milestone we're incredibly proud of. Over eight years, our Added Value Process has delivered £50 million in savings and cost avoidance to our customers, logged line by line. That works out an additional 159% of value on top of what we've billed them, at no extra cost.

We're celebrating the number, but more than that, what it represents: a business model where value is an integral part of the way we work.

The origins of our AVP

The Added Value Process was developed before Through Technology existed. Our founder, Peter Hanney, was leading a solution architecture team inside a government department, on the most complex public sector technology transformation of its time. Excellent people, and an expensive team, so Peter started proving its worth.

Every time the team saved the customer money, or headed off a cost before it landed, they wrote it down. Line by line, that log grew. It became the prototype for our Added Value Process.

A core part of the Through Tech ethos

Today it's built into everything we do, from the induction of new staff to the closure report at the end of every engagement. Our people are actively tasked with finding ways to save customers money or avoid future costs, even where those sit outside what we were brought in to deliver. We then:

→ Assess each opportunity and implement it where it makes sense, often at no cost to the customer

→ Report the results, including the financial impact, back line by line as Added Value

It's a discipline, not just a marketing slogan. Our customers feel that, and are always impressed by our ‘next level’ delivery that goes above and beyond the scope of the contract.

Why the value is there to be found

Most of that £50M was sitting in plain sight. It just needed a team with the right skills and the motivation to catch it. Value leaks from large contracts for two reasons:

The oversight gap. The people overseeing a contract usually aren't the ones with the technical depth to spot where money is leaking. It takes both skillsets, and most customers only have one to hand.

→ The supply chain. Big suppliers subcontract large pieces of work, add a margin, and aren't incentivised to drive the cost down, especially mid-contract, where they hold a single-supplier monopoly and pricing lower down the chain is invisible to the customer.

So the value goes uncaught. Year after year.

What makes us different

Spotting value leaks requires an understanding of not just the technology, but the commercial, financial and business context around it - for both the supplier and customer sides of the relationship. That's exactly why our people are Solution Leaders, not just Technical Architects.

A Technical Architect designs technology that works; a Solution Leader does that too, but understands the whole environment they're delivering into. It's that combination that lets them see the value others miss.

We do this because it's the right way to work, and because our customers deserve a partner who finds value without being asked.

Every supplier bid talks about "added value." Most clients have learned to skim past that line. The difference with Through Technology is that it's built into our processes - logged and proven - not a sales pitch.

Here's to the next £50M 🎉
