Through Technology - Supporting UK Cyber Vulnerability Management

Basingstoke UK, 17.03.2026 -

Through Technology are proud to announce our role supporting the UK Government's newly launched Vulnerability Management Service (VMS) - a service that has already cut critical cyber-vulnerability fix times across the UK public sector by 84%, transforming the detection and resolution of issues threatening UK public sector digital services [1].

The Government's VMS, unveiled by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), forms a key part of the wider Blueprint for Modern Digital Government. The service uses a blend of in-house developed tooling and best-of-breed External Attack Surface Monitoring (EASM) and Namespace Security products supplied by Through Technology to continuously scan internet‑facing infrastructure across the public sector. VMS then alerts the right teams to security weaknesses—reducing median resolution times from nearly two months to just eight days [1].

A Step Change in Government Cyber Defence

The VMS represents a measurable shift in operational cyber readiness. As highlighted by the Digital Government Minister Ian Murray, this is not an abstract technical uplift but one that directly reduces risks to essential services such as the NHS, GP surgeries, ambulance trusts, hospitals and social care providers.

Peter Hanney, CEO of Through Technology, commented:

“This is a landmark national initiative. The speed improvement alone—reducing DNS weakness fix times from nearly two months to just over a week—demonstrates the impact that modern tooling, automation, and disciplined vulnerability management can achieve. We are proud to support DSIT in delivering capabilities that materially improve the cyber resilience of critical public services. With geo-political tensions rising globally, this is a step that all national governments should be taking to safeguard the critical digital services that citizens depend upon. ”

The launch of VMS coincides with the creation of a new government Cyber Profession, co-branded with the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and the National Cyber Security Centre. This will help the UK public sector foster the in-house skills and talent required to ensure effective national cyber resilience.

Through Technology's role

Through Technology’s involvement builds on its established capability in DNS security, namespace protection, and vulnerability management— including previous work with the Government Digital Service to secure the UK's primary DNS namespace (gov.uk). Through Technology will deliver commercial EASM and Namespace security tooling and support, complimenting and augmenting proprietary systems developed by the Government Digital Service. Together they will provide centralised monitoring of UK Public Sector services, continuously monitoring for and alerting vulnerabilities that might otherwise be exploited by hostile actors. This contract has been let via the Crown Commercial Service's G-Cloud 14 Framework.

Through Technology are actively seeking opportunities to guide and support national government and large enterprise customers through this process.
